Who We Are
A brief historyLeo Rescue Canada's origins go back to Leo Rescue Ontario. As the only officially recognized Leonberger rescue in the country for many years, Leo Rescue Ontario became more and more involved in helping dogs across Canada and, at times, in the United States. As a result, it became apparent that a national organization was needed to better meet the needs of homeless Leos across the country.
Leo Rescue Ontario was summarily dissolved in 2012, and Leo Rescue Canada was formed in its place. Unlike Leo Rescue Ontario, which was a division of the Leonberger Club of Ontario, Leo Rescue Canada is a not-for-profit charitable organization, independent of any dog clubs and organizations; however, many of our board members and volunteers are part of the Leonberger fancy, thereby ensuring a continued high level of commitment and dedication to the dogs that come into the system.
